The best piece of life advice I have ever received was "be the person you wish you had when you were younger". As an educator, professional, and person, I try to carry this philosophy with me in each of my interactions with students and colleagues. In my role in Career Development, I strive to interact with students with the compassion, support, education, and excitement that is integral to the ever-evolving career development journey. In this role, I have the privilege to lead an incredible team of career counselors you will meet below. We're all here to help you throughout all phases of the career planning process. 

Though I have worked in a variety of roles over the past 10 years in higher education, I can say with certainty I have enjoyed every day. In particular, I love working with RPI students. Our students are hard-working, talented, driven, and want to create a better world for all.

Hi! My name is Emily Seils and I am the Assistant Director of Career Development here in the Center for Career & Professional Development. I am so excited to be the liaison for the School of Engineering and look forward to meeting with all of you throughout your years here at RPI. My educational background is in psychology and school counseling but throughout my professional career I have found that working in higher education (specifically in career services) is where I belong. Outside of work you can find me spending time with family & friends, hiking in the Adirondacks or Catskills, tending to my abundance of plants, or eating ice cream

Kristen Kettering

Hi, my name is Kristen Kettering, and I am a Career Counselor here at RPI in the Center for Career & Professional Development. I am very happy to be one of the liaisons to the School of Engineering students! I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in school counseling. Previously, I held a school counselor position guiding middle school and high school students. I have truly enjoyed my experience thus far with RPI students, especially engineering students! Outside of RPI, I spend most of my time with my son and family, friends, and interior decorating. I also have a sweet tooth and LOVE chocolate!

Emily Killian

Hi! I spent the last 6 years living and working in Boston. After graduating with my Masters in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY New Paltz, I began working at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where I taught professional development to students of all majors and years with a focus on preparing them for internships and gaining soft skills to succeed in all types of roles and industries. After a few years at MIT, I left to work for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where she served as a Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, supporting clients of the Department of Mental Health to prepare for and find work. I have a strong passion for working with students and am very happy to be back in the Upstate area and working in an academic setting again. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with her Brussels Griffon Jax, who helps me make homemade dog treats. I am also a big fan of women’s soccer and biking, reading, and all Bravo shows.

Hi! I attended Appalachian State University for both my Undergraduate Degree in History, Social Studies Secondary Education and my Master's Degree in Higher Education with a concentration in Community College and University Leadership. Before working in the Center for Career and Professional Development, I taught High School Social Studies for four years while also coaching Swimming in North Carolina. In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors hiking, camping, snowboarding, or taking pictures of natural scenery. I also enjoy swimming for both fitness and his mental health. I enjoy taking the time to read both for fun and to learn more about current issues within Higher Education to better serve his students. I strive to work towards more sustainable programming with career development, college access, student retention, and financial literacy skills for marginalized students such as students of color, students of low socioeconomic status, and students within the LGBTQ
